What is First Check?
First Check is a leading provider of background checks,
tenant screening reports, consumer credit reports,
and reference checking services to companies and individuals.
We are authorized resellers of Experian credit reports.
Our direct access to county, state, and national criminal
databases and our network of over 2500 court researchers
make us a one-stop shop for personal background information.
What is a First Check Self Check?
A Self Check report is a personal background check
that and individual decides to run on themselves.
There are many reasons for having First Check conduct
a personal background check on you. Many schools,
police academies, and employers now require their
applicants to have a personal background check conducted
so they can submit that background check with their
application.
Why do I need a Self Check?
Many people use the report to separate themselves
from their competition. Most of our clients use their
Self Check for employment purposes. When applying
for a job, they simply include a copy of their Self
Check and their certificate of authenticity with their
application or resume. This saves the employer time
and money. Imagine a scenario where a human resources
person is deciding between two equally qualified applicants
for a certain position. One applicant has provided
a Self Check report - the other has not. Which applicant
has the advantage? Other reasons our clients obtain
their own Self Check is that they want to see what
is on their record before an employer sees it. They
may have had trouble in the past or may have been
a victim of identity theft and they just want to see
what their report looks like. Another good reason
to do a Self Check is so that you can verify in advance
what a previous employer is saying about you. If your
previous employer relationship ended badly, it is
helpful to know what kind of reference they will give
on your behalf. Still other people use our reports.
How is the report done?
Our clients submit their information to us on our
secure web site. Once received, we begin the background
check process. Depending on the type of report ordered,
we make the necessary phone calls, send our court
record researchers to the appropriate courthouse,
or we make an inquiry to the appropriate database.
Our experienced customer service representatives manually
prepare our reports. When completed, we return the
report to you with a certificate of authenticity.
How much does it cost?
That depends on how detailed you want your background
check to be. We provide many types of searches and
reports. We have bundled our most common reports into
packages. Our lowest price package is $27.50 and our
highest price package is $67.50. If our package products
don't contain the items you need, we allow you to
add on to the basic packages.
Is this a detailed background check or just a
database search?
Some companies obtain their background checks from
databases whose information is only updated quarterly
or yearly. Some automated criminal record databases
are never updated; the database provider will simply
purchase data in a bulk form and never update the
database with the new or more recent information.
Our reports are manually prepared and our research
is obtained manually. We actually check with the entity
(employer, courthouse, college, etc.) to obtain the
information that is contained in our reports.
How long does it take?
Most reports are completed within three business
days. This is just an average. Some reports are completed
faster and others take longer because we are waiting
on returned phone calls, for example.
How do I know which report an employer wants to
see?
Our most popular reports for our commercial clients
is Package B and Package C. If your prospective employer
or landlord wants more information than your report
provides, you can simply come back to our store and
add on the information you need.
Can I add on to the report after I have received
it?
Yes.
Can I have information deleted from the report?
If the information we obtain is incorrect, it can
be deleted from your report. However, if the information
has been verified to be correct, it will not be removed
from your report. In the case of disputed information,
we will note the item you are questioning as being
a disputed item and we will allow you to add up to
a 100 word statement (your side of the the story)
to the report.
How do I correct a mistake on the report?
Mistakes do happen and can be corrected. If the information
that is incorrect has been manually verified by us,
we will re-verify and correct it. If we have obtained
information from one of our court researchers or another
data source, we will re-verify the information and
inform you what the process will be to get the information
corrected at the data source.
Can I add my own references to the report?
Yes. Instead of adding the standard line to the resume
- references provided upon request, you can simply
point them to your Self Check report.
Will employers accept my Self Check?
Most employers will accept this report. Most of them
will be impressed that you took the time to get a
background check done on yourself in advance. Some
employers will accept this report and do nothing else.
Others will accept this report and still conduct their
own background check.
Does a Self Check include a drug test ?
Only if you choose to add it to your report. We can
direct you to a drug testing facility and those results
can be added to your Self Check.
